Traffic Operations & Street Lighting

The Traffic Operations & Street Lighting division keeps Silver Falls moving safely by maintaining the systems that guide motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, and transit users through the city. From signal timing improvements to LED streetlight upgrades, the division focuses on infrastructure that supports safe travel at all hours and in all conditions.

Traffic Signals, Signs & Safety Reviews

Traffic Operations maintains traffic signals at major intersections, oversees school zone flashing beacons, and evaluates stop sign and crosswalk requests. Staff review traffic patterns, speed data, crash history, and sightline conditions when assessing resident concerns or development impacts.

Typical Traffic Requests

  • Speed study evaluations
  • Stop sign or yield sign assessments
  • Crosswalk or beacon enhancements
  • Intersection visibility and geometric review

All requests are analyzed by engineering staff, and recommendations are shared with the Public Works Director for next steps.

Street Lighting & Illumination

Silver Falls maintains more than 1,100 streetlights across residential neighborhoods, commercial areas, and the downtown riverfront district. The city continues its conversion to high-efficiency LED lighting to improve visibility, reduce energy consumption, and cut long-term maintenance costs. Crews respond to outage reports year-round and coordinate pole replacements following storms or vehicle incidents.

Residents can report streetlight outages or damaged poles through the “Report a Concern” tool on the City website.
