Stormwater & Drainage

The Stormwater & Drainage Systems Division manages the network of pipes, inlets, ditches, ponds, and natural channels that conveys rainwater and melting snow throughout the city. The system protects homes, buildings, roads, and natural habitats by reducing flooding and improving water quality before runoff reaches the Silver River.

Maintenance activities include clearing debris from storm drains, managing sediment in basins, stabilizing eroded streambanks, and managing vegetation in drainage corridors. The division also reviews new development proposals to ensure adequate stormwater retention and filtration performance.

The City coordinates with watershed and environmental agencies to meet state and federal water quality goals. Public Works prioritizes green infrastructure practices such as native plantings, rain gardens, permeable pavements, and urban tree canopy expansion to help manage runoff naturally and support biodiversity.

Stormwater management protects both infrastructure durability and ecological health.
