Open Data & Transparency

The Open Data & Transparency program is designed to give residents, researchers, journalists, and partner organizations direct access to information about how the City of Silver Falls operates. The program reflects the City’s commitment to openness, accountability, and public participation, ensuring that residents have the tools they need to understand local decision-making and engage meaningfully with government initiatives. By providing performance dashboards, downloadable datasets, and explanatory summaries, the program turns government data into a community resource.

Open Data encourages collaborative problem-solving by making information regarding public safety, infrastructure, finances, and environmental conditions accessible to everyone. The City uses modern data standards to ensure that information is clear, accurate, and regularly updated. Transparency staff work closely with all departments—including Public Works, Fire & EMS, Police, Building, Parks & Recreation, and the City Clerk’s Office—to collect, verify, and publish information in a consistent format.

The program also supports innovation by making datasets available for community groups, universities, nonprofits, and businesses that wish to analyze local trends or create digital tools. Silver Falls encourages residents to explore the data and offer suggestions for new datasets that would improve understanding of community conditions.

Types of Available Data

The Open Data Portal includes information such as service performance metrics, budget dashboards, development activity trends, infrastructure maintenance logs, environmental monitoring near the Silver River, and departmental annual reports. Additional datasets include traffic safety information, fire and EMS response times, building permit activity, code enforcement outcomes, and sustainability indicators. As the program evolves, staff plan to expand the portal to include more historical archives and cross-departmental dashboards.

Through this program, Silver Falls fosters a culture of trust and shared knowledge, empowering the community to stay informed, involved, and engaged with the City’s progress and priorities.
