Emergency Medical Services

The Emergency Medical Services Division provides pre-hospital medical care, emergency transport, and community health support throughout Silver Falls. EMS personnel respond to medical emergencies in homes, workplaces, schools, assisted living centers, and public gathering spaces, as well as along the Silver River recreation trail system. The division operates both basic and advanced life support ambulance units staffed by certified EMTs and Paramedics who are trained to assess patients, stabilize critical conditions, and administer medical treatment on scene and during transport.

The EMS system in Silver Falls is designed to ensure rapid response times and professional medical care under a wide range of emergency conditions. Paramedics are trained to manage severe trauma, cardiac arrest, stroke, respiratory distress, seizure activity, overdose incidents, and other acute medical conditions. Each ambulance carries advanced life support equipment including cardiac monitors, airway management tools, oxygen therapy devices, emergency medications, IV and IO access supplies, and patient transport equipment designed for use in challenging environments and terrain.

EMS personnel work under a physician Medical Director who provides clinical oversight, standing medical protocols, and ongoing performance review. Regular training ensures that EMS providers maintain proficiency in life-saving procedures, high-acuity care, patient assessment, and communication with hospital emergency departments. EMS crews participate in joint simulation drills with hospital staff and regional emergency teams to ensure seamless coordination of care during complex or multi-patient incidents.

The EMS Division is also involved in public health and community risk reduction efforts. Crews conduct wellness checks for at-risk residents, provide emergency response education for schools and community groups, and collaborate with outreach organizations to support residents experiencing mental health crises or chronic health instability. When possible, EMS personnel may refer patients to community services that help address underlying safety or health needs beyond the immediate emergency.

Transport destinations are coordinated based on patient condition, specialty care needs, and hospital availability. EMS providers communicate medical assessments and treatment details to receiving hospital staff to support continuity of care. The division also participates in regional disaster and mass-casualty planning to ensure readiness for large-scale events, severe storms, wildland fire incidents, and other emergencies that may impact the community.

The core mission of EMS in Silver Falls is to provide responsive, skilled, and compassionate care. The division strives to treat every patient with respect, dignity, and attention to both their physical and emotional needs during moments of crisis.
