Traffic & School Safety

The Traffic and School Safety Program promotes safe travel throughout Silver Falls for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and public transit users. Officers monitor areas with higher crash rates, respond to speeding and crosswalk safety concerns, and support engineering changes where roadway design improvements may enhance safety.

Seasonal projects include winter driving awareness, safe routes to school planning, and riverfront trail cycling etiquette campaigns. Officers collaborate with school staff to support safe pick-up and drop-off patterns, conduct safety presentations in classrooms, and work with students through peer leadership and crossing guard programs.

The division reviews community reports regarding stop sign compliance, visibility issues, and localized speeding patterns. Traffic officers may run directed enforcement in areas where collisions or near-misses have been reported. Where appropriate, officers work with Public Works to review signage, lighting, signal timing, and road markings to prevent future accidents.

The School Safety component ensures that students can travel to and from school safely whether by foot, bicycle, bus, or family vehicle. The goal is to encourage safe movement throughout the community, not only through enforcement, but through education and roadway planning.
